For a bad cough take a cup of warm milk and mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder in it . Drink it up in one gulp. Guaranteed cure !
Another family remedy for cough and congestion is to smear Vicks on the soles of your feet , pull on a pair of socks and go to bed. By morning you'll be better
One other remedy which has worked wonders for me personally for my terrible knee pain was to mix together equal quantities of powdered turmeric , fenugreek ( uluva ) and dried ginger . Put the mix in a container and take one spoonful of it in a glass of water last thing at night . I was cured in two weeks, but I took it longer , as I felt it was a good detoxifier . You certainly feel it the morning after . Must tell you that I had had surgery on one knee before I came to know of this remedy. Took it and did not need surgery for the other knee which was as bad as the other

Cough, fever, cold, sore throat, mouth ulcer due to indigestion or plain indigestion: Dried ginger coffee (recipe here - http://myinjimanga.blogspot.com/2006/05/dry-ginger-coffee-chukku-kaappi.html). Works like magic.

Cold: Boil a small pot of water with Guava leaves and Karinechi leaves (not sure what the latter is called in English). Inhale the steam. The Karinechi leaves are too hard to find these days though.

Anti-dandruff hair conditioner - Chembarathy (Hibiscus Rosasinensis) thaali (more info here - http://www.keralaayurvedics.com/herbs-plants/chembarathi-hibiscus-rosasinensis-%E2%80%93ayurvedic-medicinal-herbs.html)

These are what I remember from my childhood.
