Weekly Trip to the Market
After being in an Indian household for five months I was in desperate need of some non-curry-laden food. I just wanted some bland raw or steamed fruits and veggies. That’s it, raw or steamed with no spices or oil. So for the last five weeks or so I have been making a weekly trip to the outdoor fruit and vegetable market. Every week on the drive home I am in awe at how cheap everything is. The prices are fractions of what they would be in the U.S. Here is what I purchased this week with the prices:
Amazing, right?

Wow, Meliss! I’m jealous! I’ve been increasing my fruits and veggies too but not getting them at that price for sure! I’m enjoying catching up on your blog and loved your last posting as well, eye opening and provocative! I mean that! I miss you, let’s talk soon! Love you!

Hey, that’s great ! Here we are constantly complaining about the spiralling cost of fruits and veggies, while you love how cheap they all are.

Hi Melissa,
Just came across your blog while looking for info on Ramada Resort. I have enjoyed reading all your posts. Going there next October to attend wedding. I am travelling from Ireland. I was wondering should I wait and buy a long dress for wedding in Kochi? Will be staying in the Ramada REsort for 4 days before the wedding so could I get a dress made? Should I get an Indian style dress or would that not be considered suitable by locals? I would really appreciate any information you can give. Also can you recommend places to visit? Is there a beach anywhere near the Ramada that we could get to by taxi? My family would be interested in shopping for casual clothes, jeans. t-shirts, shirts, etc. Could you recommend any shopping area? Sorry for asking so many questions but we have never been to India before.
